Our
Story
In 1866 a missionary from the Evangelical Lutheran Synod of Iowa came to this area to gather the scattered German Lutheran people and establish a congregation. Missionary Matter's task was bleak and forlorn, as was often the case in America. People of differing backgrounds and without beliefs had been thrown together and had no mind to work together for a common cause. Under such conditions, any attempt to form a Christian congregation among such people would end in failure.
But that was not the case!
This congregation grew together with the rise of Middleburg Heights, Berea, and the surrounding areas. It was not easy, and many bumps were in the road, but it flourished. It has lived in three different buildings, has been under the leadership of twenty different Pastors, countless Lay Leaders and a strong willed congregation committed to loving all, serving the community, and growing in faith.
St Paul Lutheran Church is not a building. It's people. People that actively practice Loving our neighbors, Serving others, and Growing in our Faith. People that serve at the Men's Shelter and Crisis Center. People that provide meals to the community. People that support the efforts of others. People that come together to worship and socialize as a community. People that care about the wellbeing of others. People that try to imitate Jesus.
